On the northern slope of the Castle, where was the probable forum of the roman city, there is an artificial platform where one can find the set of monuments of Myrtilis. This space was built on top of a wall and an underground gallery – the cryptoporticus – with 30 meters long and 6 meters high.

During the ancient times luxury religious constructions were raised over the cryptoporticus, among them we can find a baptistery from the 5th or 6th century. At the time the baptistery was covered with marble and surrounded by magnificent mosaics representing animals and hunting figures, which can still be seen.

In the Islamic period, during the 12th and 13th century, this all area was transformed into a residential area with about 30 houses. Following the Christian conquest of 1238, the residential area was totally destroyed and a graveyard occupied this space.
